Teacher Profile: Nicolas Borgmeyer

Nicolas Borgmeyer started working at Xceed Preparatory Academy – Coral Springs during a very difficult time: the pandemic. Despite the challenges many educators faced during the 2020-21 school year, Nicholas fully embraced his new role as the Social Studies Teacher at Coral Springs.

“The environment and culture at Xceed are incredible, especially as it relates to the staff,” shared Nicholas. “We are a close-knit team and because we all have the same students, we are better able to understand and support them while also supporting one other.”

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Nicholas is also the campus sponsor for Student Government and the National Honor Society, and recently organized a fully remote Ethical Governance Day for students across all the campuses.

“During Ethical Governance Day, we have the opportunity to expose students to several different aspects of government in a positive way,” Nicholas explained. “I don’t want their first experience with the government or law to be negative. I also feel it’s important for students to understand the impact they can have on their own communities, so I was excited to help organize and facilitate this event.”

Nicholas, who earned his B.A. in History from Florida State University, finds that engaging students in both the classroom and campus activities allows him to get to know them on a personal level, as well.

“Xceed provides a flexible, small environment that is perfect for teachers to build relationships and better understand the students’ learning styles, interests, needs and future goals,” said Nicholas.

Through his teaching and staff liaison activities, Nicholas noticed a pattern with students who succeed in the Xceed educational model.

“The kids who do well at Xceed are the ones who take ownership of their work; they’re responsible and organized. However, it’s also important to note that we are a college preparatory school, so we treat the students like adults. This helps them in college and beyond because they’re learning these skills now, with our guidance, versus when they’re on their own.”
