Xceed Partners With High School Basketball Group, Overtime Elite, for New Atlanta Academy

In March, Overtime Elite flipped the script on high school and college sports by announcing the launch of a pro league for the top teenage basketball players in the world. Now, it is disrupting traditional education by partnering with Xceed Preparatory Academy, an innovative leader in college prep academics, to launch OTE Academy for its players in Atlanta.

Xceed’s high quality, flexible model is the ideal fit for OTE’s elite players.

“Over the years, we’ve found that student-athletes understand and appreciate our model,” said Brent Goldman, Ed.D., CEO and co-founder of Xceed Preparatory Academy. “Our students complete their schoolwork at times that work best for them, and they have the option and flexibility to meet with our outstanding teachers one-on-one or in group sessions to help them truly master a subject.  OTE Academy will give world-class athletes an excellent education while allowing them to train and compete without the typical time constraints or restrictions they’d find in a traditional school.”

OTE Academy will serve Overtime Elite athletes aged 16-18 at their new training facility in Atlanta. The accredited program’s personalized learning plan will allow students to either work ahead in a subject once they have mastered it or spend extra time with a teacher in areas where they need additional help. All core courses are NCAA-approved, and students can also earn college credits through a dual enrollment program with the University of Pittsburgh and Outlier.

OTE Academy will emulate what’s already in place at the Xceed DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, an elite, multi-sport training and educational institution for basketball, volleyball, soccer and hockey players.

“Xceed’s teachers are exceptional,” said Dan Panaggio, co-founder of DME. “They teach students to take control and responsibility of their lives, which is extremely important. Elite and pro athletes have the capacity to learn and want to learn—it’s a mindset. And with Xceed, we help our athletes keep their brains functioning more efficiently and effectively than a traditional school can.”

OTE Academy students will engage in coursework specific to their personalized learning track, taking the required courses for a State of Georgia high school diploma.

“At OTE, we believe in the power of a personalized, self-directed approach to education,” said OTE Head of Academics Maisha Riddlesprigger. “Our athletes are empowered with the agency and opportunity to create their path to mastery of grade level content at their own pace, with the support of Xceed’s certified teachers. The goal is to ensure that OTE athletes leave the program with the tools and skills needed to lead meaningful and sustained careers in professional basketball as well as the ability to create a pathway forward after their time as professional athletes.”
